The sight of the soybean seedlings pushing their way up through the dirt always fascinates me. It is fresh every year!
And I am always reminded of this excerpt from James Russell Lowell’s poem, “The Vision of Sir Launfal”  which my Dad would begin to recite on such a fine June morning –
“Every clod feels a stir of might,
An instinct within it that reaches and towers,
And, groping blindly above it for light,
Climbs to a soul in grass and flowers…”

It seems that many folks his age memorized at least a part of this classic in public school.
I am the richer for having heard him recite a few lines from it and, out of curiosity, eventually looking it up and reading it myself.
